We will examine Directives, OW Regulations, Clearinghouses and SAMS technology on living with parent circumstances where eligibility exists for two benefit unit families.
We will also access the Co-Residency Questionnaire on the SAExtranet and answer the questions through a mock scenario between three adults, and determine the factors that examine Spousal Marriage Like relationships compared to a Co-resident or Roommate circumstance.
Screen shots and correct data input within SAMS will be captured and discussed in this workshop through your host trainers.

Post-Secondary and Temporary Care: Income Exemptions and Ongoing Eligibility
We will examine the application of OW Directives as they relate to post-secondary and temporary care scenarios, through two hands-on case studies.
The first case study will examine Directives, OW Regulations, Clearinghouses and SAMS technology on Post-Secondary Students and eligibility related to grants, OSAP funding, living allowances and direct educational expenses. We will explore participation requirements and expectations and also available employment or other related benefits.
The second case study will examine Directives, OW Regulations, Clearinghouses and SAMS technology on Temporary Care Assistance. We will explore definitions of dependent children, demonstrated intent to treat a child as your own, custodial implications, access to Child Tax Benefits, and examine appeal decisions within the Social Benefits Tribunal.
In both case studies our facilitators will show and/or add correct data within SAMS training technology which will be discussed throughout the workshops.

NOTE: This is an interactive, virtual workshop, which is different from a webinar. Participants will be expected to participate through voice and video, and to engage with each other and the facilitators in large and small group discussions, to learn from each other and practice skill development.
Participants must be able to access the SA Extranet site during this training in order to navigate Directives, Legislation and Clearinghouse.
Four three-hour and one two-hour online workshops over two weeks.

Kirby Steinhoff has been in the employment and social services field for over 10 years, starting as a frontline crisis counsellor in a domestic violence shelter transitioning to Ontario Works case management with Norfolk County and is currently employed with Halton Region as an Integrated Case Manager. Kirby has worked as a trainer and policy developer within Halton Region and is considered a subject matter expert and has trained both front-line and supervisory staff on various SAMS modules and directives, while with Halton Region.
Kirby has completed an Undergraduate degree from Western University in Women’s Studies and Feminist Research, a diploma in Human Resources from Fanshawe College and Master of Arts in Labour Studies from McMaster University with research focused on social policy, inclusion and contemporary work.
