Middle school athletic trainers are healthcare professionals that are responsible for preventing, assessing, treating, and rehabilitating sports-related injuries and illnesses in student-athletes. They educate athletes on injury prevention, evaluate injuries, provide immediate care, design rehabilitation programs, and respond to medical emergencies. Athletic trainers also collaborate with coaches, parents, and healthcare providers and maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments to ensure athletes receive appropriate care and support.
All athletic program participants must complete and file all required UIL forms each year to be eligible for athletic participation. These forms must be on file with the athletic trainer before participating in any tryout, practice, or game/competition (both in-season and out-of-season). All physicals must be completed on the New Caney ISD Physical Form. The campus athletic trainer must be made aware of any existing conditions or limitations that may impact the performance of an athlete.
If an athlete becomes ill or injured, they should inform the campus athletic trainer and head coach as soon as possible. If a parent feels their child needs to see a doctor about an injury, they need to make sure and communicate with the campus athletic trainer.
If an athlete goes to the doctor, written instructions from the doctor relating to the care and treatment of the athlete must be turned into the campus athletic trainer. All athletes under a doctor's care must have a written release to return to activity. Parent notes for illness will not be accepted as a reason to miss practice for more than two days. Whenever an athlete is injured or has an illness of a minor nature, the athlete may be required to dress out (but not participate) and stay with their group during the workout.
Parents should contact the campus athletic trainer with questions about their child's injury or illness.
Any student-athlete that sees any physician or doctor for any reason (illness or injury) at any time must supply a written note from that physician or doctor before being able to return to participation in their sport/athletic event.
If a note is not supplied, the athlete will NOT be allowed to return to practice/games.
